BEHIND THE CURTAIN: Two Corners Panel Discussion

Finger Lakes Opera (FLO) commissioned B.E. Boykin and Jarrod Lee to create the company's first opera in 2022. Over the past two years, this one-act opera has had two weeklong workshops; one in Rochester during FLO's 2023 Summer Festival and the second in Cincinnati when the company was invited to participate in The Cincinnati Opera's Opera Fusion: New Works initiative.

This free Behind the Curtain event, sponsored by the George Walker Center for Equity and Inclusion in Music, will give audience members the opportunity to learn how this new work has come to life.

Moderator Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, Eastman School of Music's Associate Dean of Equity and Inclusion, will lead a discussion on the Two Corners creative process and the themes explored therein.

Panelists include Composer B.E. Boykin, Librettist Jarrod Lee, Soprano Kearstin Piper Brown, and FLO Artistic Director, Conductor, and Founder Gerard Floriano.

Remembering Suzanne Gouvernet

Finger Lakes Opera would not exist without Suzanne Gouvernet. She was there at the beginning of this company's journey and remained a steadfast supporter, confidant, and advisor until her last breath. While we mourn the loss of our dear friend and founding board member, Finger Lakes Opera will continue to celebrate and be inspired by Suzanne’s generosity and her sparkling energy.

The arts in this area have lost one of its most ardent and passionate advocates, and Finger Lakes Opera has lost one of its most trusted leaders and friend. We were fortunate to have known her and shall treasure her memory always.

WILL YOU HELP SUPPORT OPERA IN ROCHESTER?

Our 2022 Season was magical, and 2023 will be even better with our main-stage production of Aida. As we move into our next decade, we need your help.

Before the pandemic, our ticket sales and other earned revenue accounted for 30% of our total income. After COVID-19, that number has fallen less than 10%. Will you help us bridge the gap by contributing to our Annual Fund?

Together, we can keep the music playing for decades to come.

THANK YOU TO OUR PROGRAM ADVERTISERS

We extend our gratitude for these local businesses and organizations for their support of  Finger Lakes Opera.
