Finger Lakes Opera (FLO) is thrilled to announce its lineup of programs for the 2021 season. Highlighting the summer productions will be Rossini’s comedic masterpiece The Barber of Seville, featuring internationally renowned baritone Jonathan Michie as the jack-of-all trades Figaro, 2018 Metropolitan Opera Council Award Winner Carlos Enrique Santelli as the master of disguise Count Almaviva, and third year Los Angeles Opera Young Artist Resident Taylor Raven as the beautiful Rosina. The Barber of Seville is scheduled for Friday, August 6, and Sunday, August 8. FLO’s season also includes the delightful children’s opera Pinocchio and Opera HITS!, both of which will feature the Tomita Young Artists.
FLO’s 2021 season will begin July 18 with a program featuring the Tomita Young Artists as they present Summer Scenes. This will be the first opportunity for audiences to hear the remarkable talents of all twelve artists. Selected from a field of nearly 300 applicants, the ten singers and two collaborative accompanists each will perform in at least one, some several, scenes put together by Artistic Director Gerard Floriano. This intimate event provides an opportunity for the audience to mingle with the young singers and accompanists before and after the performance. Wine and appetizers will be served.
On July 31, FLO will again showcase some of the Tomita Young Artists in John Davies’s Pinocchio, the classic tale that emphasizes the importance of telling the truth through the eyes of a mischievous puppet, his father, a conniving wolf, and his crafty feline sidekick. While geared to children ages 3-12, this production, which features music from Mozart, Offenbach, and more, will delight audiences of all ages. FLO is thrilled to be able to present Pinocchio in Canandaigua in the summer and in Rochester before Thanksgiving. Also, on August 1, FLO will present Opera HITS!, the program that highlights the special talents of the Tomita Young Artists as they sing solos, duets, and more, accompanied by the Finger Lakes Opera Orchestra.
FLO will close out its summer season with two performances of the opera many have said delivers the perfect comedic punch: The Barber of Seville. Set in 17th century Spain, this story shows the lengths one will go to win another’s heart. With help from the clever Figaro, Count Almaviva weaves his way into Rosina’s heart all while audiences are treated to some of the most popular arias delivered in dazzling, coloratura fashion.

FLO is finalizing the venue for this performance, which will be held in downtown Rochester.
